Picking the right machine
Q. What are the minimum installation requirements? A. For us to install your machine, the installation site must be located within ONE (1) metre of water, drains, electrics and vents.
Q. How do I know what electrics to choose? A. Below is a guide about the different types of electric options available. If you are not 100% confident that you have made the right choice then please do not hesitate to contact us and we will guide you through the process. Single phase 13amp This is your standard domestic type "plug in" mains lead.
Single phase 30amp Commercial machines require greater electrical power and therefore a heavier duty cable and power supply.
Commonly shown on rating plates as 230V/1N/50, this being a standard type 230volt 50Hertz mains supply (live, earth and neutral cables) but rated at 30 amps similar to an electric cooker.
Two phase 16amp Two or three phase equipment spreads the loading (electrical current) across more that one live cable. The Miele Professional models PW6055 and PW6065 are two phase machines but run from a three phase supply, these are rated at 16amps per phase as opposed to the single phase models requiring 30amps per phase.
Commonly shown on rating plates as 400V/2N/50, this being a 400volt or 415volt 50Hertz supply found on the majority of commercial premises where they consume large amounts of electrical power. This type of connection has 2 lives, one neutral and one earth cable.
Three phase 16amp Basically the same as the two phase variant above except using 3 live cables. Commonly shown on rating plates as either 400V/3N/50 or 415V/3N/50. These appliances are rated at 16amps per phase the same as the two phase machines but requiring three 16amp fuses rather than two.
This type of connections has 3 lives, one neutral and one earth cable.
Warning Some three phase supplies and/or equipment do not have a neutral. The Miele Professional machines require a neutral connection - they will not work with out one!
Q. Do I need a dump valve or drain pump washing machine? A. Pump version The pump versions are the same principal to a domestic washing machine where the dirty water is pumped out from below the drum, up behind the machine and into a standpipe.
These models are suitable for more normal types of washing (linen, curtains, pillows, clothing etc) where the items are not soiled by human body waste.
Pump drainage is not designed for semi solids and solids; this is where you need the dump valve (sluice model).
Dump version Dump valve versions literally dump the waste water out of the machine via an open valve using gravity. If you have or have the possibility of incontinence at your premises then you MUST have a sluice model with a dump valve.
Dump valve versions feature two sluice and thermal disinfection programmes meeting Department of Health guidelines HSG (95) 18, and conform to the requirements of the Care Standard Act 2000.
As this is a method of drainage relies on gravity the machine must be mounted above the level of the main drain it therefore should ideally be mounted on either the correct Miele plinth of a suitable concrete plinth.
Q. What ventilation do I need to provide?
A. Condenser dryers Condenser dryers re-circulate the exhaust air condensing any moisture which can be either pumped into the built-in drawer unit or pumped directly into a sink drain or similar available drain.
We only recommend purchasing a condenser dryer if there is no access to an outside wall for ventilation. These machines are not as efficient as vented dryers and require more frequent cleaning of fluff filters and regular cleaning of the condenser unit.
Vented dryers These machines as the name suggest require an external vent and therefore must be installed in a room with an exterior wall for the vent to go through.
All tumble dryers All tumble dryers regardless of ventilation type, make or capacity require availability of fresh air into the laundry room or directly into the machine in some cases.
Although the building regulations state you must have an extractor fan in a laundry room, it does not state (to our knowledge) where this air is going to come from if the tumble dryers are also pumping air out of the room. If the dryer does not have sufficient air it will overheat and cut-out for safety reasons. Even the smallest machines in the Miele range move around 310m3 per hour.
